HEX- Public Space Seating System

HEX- It’s a system of arm chairs, puffs and chairs with high back rest which is directly derived from the geometric shape Hexagon. The main idea behind this system of furniture is to have it for the public space seating. Considering the Ergonomics and Proxemics of the public space design, Hexagon was chosen. As Hexagon is a very modular and versatile shape,it can be played around which results into various interesting configurations.
Public space Proxemics is a very important aspect when someone is
designing a system of furniture or just 1 piece of furniture. People using the public space seating sit according to the position of the seating system placed in the space. So here in this seating system HEX, people get
freedom to use it in the way they want as it’s a modular system and it
supports the main aspects of public space Proxemics. There could be
Intimate distance, Personal distance, Social distance and Public distance between the people using it. For an instance, if 2 people who are strangers to each other, they can sit on the chair with the high back rest if they want to maintain their privacy. But if there is a group of people who knows each other, they can sit in a group in one of the configurations where they can freely interact with each other. Also there are puffs for the people who wants to sit in a more relaxed way.
This system is versatile and can be used in public spaces like Airports, hotel lobbies, railway stations, hospital lobbies or waiting areas, waiting areas in the offices etc.. Also it can have different color combinations
according to the public space it is used in.
HEX is a combination of different pieces of chairs and puffs. It has very basic materials like wood, foam with various density and felt upholstered with fabric.

HEX- Public Space Seating system received Honorary Mention globally under the category of Products for Public Design in one of the most prestigious design awards iF Design Awards 2014.
